Ep 7 of conversations with stoic mamas along the way
11

This is Episode Seven of conversations with stoic mamas along the way, part of a series of conversations with moms who’ve consciously chosen to shift the way they’re relating to this circumstance; using the context of parenting a trans-identified child to build capacity and get bigger than the problem. This episode is sponsored by Dream School. Brought to you by the creators of This Jungian Life, Dream School is a year-long dream interpretation course designed to teach you how to “decode the language of metaphor and symbol, and harness the power of your unconscious wisdom.” Stoicmom subscribers can get 15% off tuition with the coupon code: STOICMOM15 Go to https://thisjungianlife.com/join-dream-school/ to learn more and enroll.

I loved getting to interview Eloise (pseudonym), who is on the leadership team in our online community! (Application below to be considered for membership.) She quotes Viktor Frankl, “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves” and shares the impact the Serenity Prayer has had on how she’s chosen to shepherd her daughter through her identity exploration. She describes the necessary consciousness it takes to be mindful of not only what we’re telegraphing to our children through our energy and behavior, but of what they’re telegraphing to us through their adoption of a trans-identity and how we can use this information to be the moms they need us to be. With her permission, I read excerpts from her coaching graduation reflection and have linked it below if you’d like to reinforce the wisdom she shares in our conversation.

At this point, I have embraced this destabilizing, sometimes excruciating, sometimes wondrous experience of having a trans-IDed child as “curriculum of the soul.” Because I can’t help but imagine how different the world might be if we could all take the hardest thing in our lives and view it as this, as curriculum of the soul. Practitioners of Stoicism might say, "the obstacle is the way." These are my conversations and reflections--along the way.
