Thank you! I too have been grateful for the $$ we saved on birth control, makeup and clothing! Humor works best for me. Now she is going off to college and I just have to trust that developmentally, she will in time grow into herself. It's a small college and I hope that with a fresh start she can meet people who like her for who she truly is. Don't know - but the faith part helps.
Keep looking for those qualities that will see her through and keep keeping the faith. She'll sense it. It also doesn't hurt to say it. I tell my kid I believe in her and that I know she'll make the best possible decisions for her health.
My son provides most of our comic relief over here and there's nothing more magical than my whole family laughing together at the dinner table. It's those moments, which happen regularly, that remind me we'll be just fine.
I'm a member at permies. ;) This was a different group of experts and I got to stay in an absolutely stunning, off-grid resort before switching to a more primitive setting to actually bring our design to life. It was profound and magical! It's another reason to be grateful--I've decided I really need to live in alignment with my values, in reverence to Life, modeling true authenticity for my kids. This was the beginning of some amazing social permaculture, methinks!
Terrific! I'm on staff there. I still show up for the staff meetings but I'm not very active. Working as a pediatrician and working with SEGM takes up too much time. I am working to sequester carbon at our farm, though so it's not all medical and gender.
You have a farm! I love that you have a farm, and it's not all medical and gender. I have a garden. ;) And after last week, I have a relationship with a primitive skills and permaculture learning community where I helped design and put in a large annual garden, start tree guilds for a food forest, and build a greenhouse. :)
Oh yeah, he's literally larger than life. Dude is over 6'6", I think more like 6'8" - if you stand next to him you are in his armpit. He has strong ideas, I don't agree with all of them, but he's getting stuff done.
Thank you! I needed this today--to know that my work is resonating and there are others who are ready for a different experience. You speak of needing to "go through that to reach the other side." You may also like my piece: Grant me the Serenity and the podcast episode: Butterflies Becoming where I talk with Jessie Mannisto about the "through that"--the messy part, the fire that's forging us. Thank you for taking the time to comment!
If you're serious at all, send me an email at stoicmom@substack.com! I do two types of episodes right now: Reflections from the Trenches (for paid subscribers) and interviews. I am very interested in talking with other moms!
I think you might be in the right place. ;) The best we can do is "tend our own fires." Just maybe, and I think there's a good chance, it will be enough.

Permaculture! I didn't expect to see something about my previous preoccupation in a gender mess place. It's a marvelous thing.
I highly recommend permies.com as a resource. It's a great community, a place you can ask questions and share results.

So, you must know Mr. Wheaton?
Yes, coming up on a decade now.
I haven't met him; he has a bit of a reputation.

"I will not let my golden thread between me and my child be broken over pronouns. It's a practice...not an accomplishment." I love this so much.
