Food for thought in your essay...though my situation is complicated by the fact that my young adult child is not, in fact, independent. She is disabled and dependent on me for all sorts of things including "safeguarding" in medical decisions and care. I find myself in a horrible double bind.

Sacrificing your daughter could mean having faith beyond your need to rescue your daughter. A concrete association of mine: for several years, vessels were slipping out of my hands and smashing on the kitchen floor (I had bilateral paresthesia — plus frozen shoulder for a while). Now I have a firm (mindful) grip and don’t drop the breakables anymore.
